Evolution Of Technology Essay -- essays research papers

Primitive men cleaved their universe into friends and enemies and responded with quick, deep emotion to even the mildest threats emanating from outside the arbitrary boundary. With the rise of chiefdoms and states, this tendency became institutionalized, war was adopted as an instrument of policy of some of the new societies, and those that employed it best became - tragically - the most successful. The evolution of warfare was an autocatalytic reaction that could not be halted by any people, because to attempt to reverse the process unilaterally was to fall victim. -E.O. Wilson, On Human Nature As every day passes we are become more and more a globalized society. With this ongoing cycle we come across a vast multitude of impasses. One of the main ideas leading toward this "global paradox" is the concept of global mindset. In this paper we will discuss all of the aspects of the global mindset: what it is, how it helps people live productively and successfully in the globalizing society, and how to develop an effective global mindset. Having a global mindset is a crucial competence of most businesses futures. What crucial competence means is the most sought after characteristic. Any level of manger that does not act with a global strategy will be left in the dust in today's globalizing markets. So what is a global mindset? Before we discuss what a global mindset is we must look at the reasons why we need a global mindset, so we can get a clearer picture of what we actually need. The world is becoming more interconnected and there have been recent changes in the world political systems. Incidents such as the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union; as well as revolutionary advances in communication technology. The implications for higher education in this changing world scene are significant as the new global workplace, driven by the up and coming information technology (IT) area, has made communication in daily life increasingly multinational and multicultural (Kim 617). Informal education is also a way to start. By this we mean that you don't have to go to formal classes to learn. Just by paying attention to people from other cultures in every day life we can enlarge our global mindset. In a class offered at the University of Rhode Island, BUS/COM 354, International Business Communication Exchange, students work in teams a... ... nations (Craige 5). To simplify this books main idea is to say that there is an underlying battle going on between not necessarily the nations to be the best, but inside the individuals, most of whom have tribalistic instincts. It is hard to do things and participate in things that you don't feel accustomed to which drives us into the conclusion of this paper. Those who want to succeed in today's global society, yes, have to have a global mindset, but it is much bigger than that. One must excel in what he or she does and give one hundred and ten percent effort all of the time. Of course, some people get lucky and get jobs handed to them, but for the vast majority of us it is a race. One race to the end of the path that we decide to take. Not everyone wins that race, and maybe that is not important. In today's globalizing society it is hard to feel like you are even part of the race. You may feel like you are doing well and then someone runs right past you and you don't even know what happened. We can't control the rate at which the global society is growing at and we wish we could say that everything and everyone will turn out a winner or at least happy. Yet this is untrue. English Creative Writing

Creative writing first draft In today's modern society, media is everywhere. Even at an early stage in life, people are heavily exposed to media. According to a study concluded by Kaiser Family Foundation (2010), teenagers spend about 53 hours per week on different sort of media; such as television, internet, and film. As it has become a huge part of people's everyday lives, one may question what role this plays in terms of shaping the opinions and positions of the younger generation. In my opinion, the mass media has got a huge impact on teenagers. Some influences may be positive, such as access to information and overall awareness. On the other hand, a society has been created where teenagers blindly follow trends, advices and norms that have been influenced by the mass media. Let's take my typical morning as an example. The alarm clock goes off after 8 hours of sleep, which Vie read is the recommended amount. When taking a shower afterwards, I use a certain shampoo, which I bought because it was presented by my favorite actor in a commercial.Having done that, I will put on my makeup which is carefully selected from one of the brands recommended by my favorite magazine. I will also style my hair in a certain ay, inspired by a trend. After that I will carefully select my outfit according to fashion which is presented by the different sorts of media. For breakfast I will have some bread and Juice, which is healthy and full of nutrition's according to a newspaper. As clearly shown in the example above, media has affected my life in many ways.Things, such as my way of clothing, selection of makeup, and even my diet, are inspired by media. Even though there may be different or even better options for me in terms of preferences and lifestyle choices, there is a big chance that I will base my sections primarily on what is presented to me through media instead of basing my decisions on facts and personal interest. This is because I'm constantly being exposed to a cert ain ideal in terms of lifestyle, opinions, etc. Which I could be heavily inspired by. According to Teen futures media network, a teenager will have seen around 350 000 commercials by the age of 18. Also, a major amount of hours will be spent by the TV or the computer. This constant exposition to trends and ideals will shape people's opinions and view on things in various ways. A survey in People Magazine showed that 80 % of all female respondents felt that women in movies and television programs made them feel insecure about their bodies.Basically, the mass media has got both positive and negative impacts on the younger generation. It influences decision, preferences, and decisions all through people's lives through advertisements, televisions and magazines among others. No matter what consequences the mass media brings to teenager's lives, it is undeniable that media does shape the opinions and positions of the younger generation in various ways. Meth Addiction The Only Way Anyone Ever Quits An Addiction

Meth Addictions â€Å"The only way anyone ever quits an addiction is that they come to a place where the desire to be free exceeds the desire to use† (â€Å"Anonymous†). Methamphetamine is not a new drug. In 1887, Germany first made amphetamine. Later on in 1919, Japan developed meth. When they discovered that the powder was soluble in water and then could be used for injection, it became popular in World War II to keep soldiers awake. Kamikaze pilots on their suicide mission were given high doses. Later on in the 1950’s meth was used to fight depression and prescribed as a diet aid. In the 1960’s, the availability of meth increased making methamphetamine abuse worse. Crystal meth was made illegal in the United States in 1970 . By 2012, 1.2 million people said they had used the drug in the last year, and 440,000 said they had used it in the last month. Meth is a growing problem in America today (â€Å"History of Meth†). Every addiction has its own beginning, ration al, and indicators. Each addiction presents itself with its own dangers and effects, and while there are different treatments available, help can only be given when addicts choose to help themselves. Meth addictions most commonly begin with the temptation of instant gratification. Labeled â€Å"Poor Man’s Cocaine† because of its cost and ease of access, meth is often abused which then results in addiction (Schleifer 17). Meth provides the body with energy and pleasure. This drug allows people to stay awake and alert (Bailey). Anime Evolution and Influence in America free essay sample

Chareunsack David Lon English 3 June 6th, 2012 Anime Evolving amp; its Influence in America As a child or young adult growing up in the 1990’s you remember watching shows like Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, or Inuyasha. Then you watch these shows later on in your life you notice that the movement of their mouths doesn’t fall into sync with the English language. If you ever noticed this then you later learn that it is because America adopted them from Japan, where it was first originated. Many cartoons or animations we see on television aren’t all made in America. It makes you wonder how did anime not only influence American culture, but how has it evolved since it was first introduced? What is Manga? What do newspapers, comic books, and graphic novels have in common? They all portray a type of entertainment that people from certain age groups look at. In Japan this type of entertainment is common for people of all ages. The comic strip provided Japanese story-lines with a structure that was readily accessible to the masses. These would eventually contribute to the development of a modern Japanese comic book or â€Å"manga† (). Manga is used in the English-speaking world as a generic term for all comic books and graphic novels that were originally published in Japan (). Many people in America tend to not read a comic or graphic novel once they hit a certain age, in fear of their peers deeming them â€Å"un-cool†. In Japan, comics are highly popular with males and females of all ages, no matter what his or her interests (). When people in the United States think of comics, they think of superheroes and comic strips in newspapers. They don’t think of comics as art or literature (). What is Anime? Have you ever watched Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? If you have then you know that in 1937 () it became so successful that it influenced that art of Japanese animation, or anime. What is anime, you may ask. Anime is used as a term to refer to all animation forms all over the world (). Japanese anime and American cartoons are completely different from their art forms, to the genre of its story line, or plot, to their type of audience. The audiences for these two types of animations are extremely different. While cartoons are mostly generated toward children, anime has a larger range of their audience. An anime audience ranges from children, to young adults to even businessmen. Cartoons usually have a simple and defined plot and theyre usually about the good guys fighting the bad guys (). Most Anime series, on the other hand, are also about the same good vs. evil but the plots are rarely simple and rarely predictable (). In a handful of anime series there are incidences where the writer makes the line between good and evil so unclear; you’ll be left in wonder as to who is right or and who is wrong. Look at the Wave Country arc of  Naruto  which is now at  Naruto Shippuden. Zabuza, evil as he was, had evoked more sympathetic tears than any of the typical Disney antagonists (). History The History of Manga originates from scrolls dating back to the 12th century, however whether these scrolls are actually manga is still dispute. Anime began at the start of the 20th century, when Japanese filmmakers experimented with the animation techniques that were being explored in the west; the United States, France, Germany, and Russia. Osamu Tezuka Osamu Tezuka, born in 1928-1989, was often known as the â€Å"godfather† of anime and the â€Å"God of Manga†. Osama Tezuka made cartooning and animation into serious art forms in Japan, where he is often compared with  Walt Disney (). Although bullied as a child he had many hobbies, one of which he will be remembered for, for the rest of his life. While he used to read comics he often drew them as well. Even as he attended medical school, he continued his love for drawing manga. Tezuka was still a medical student when he began drawing a serial newspaper strip called  Machan no Nikkicho, Diary of Ma-chan (). From the age of 18, he worked at a furious pace and had dozens of different stories published in newspapers, magazines and books. His work gradually became successful enough to get him noticed by the big publishers in Tokyo and his career was soon off to a real start (). Originally an aspiring animator, Tezuka became a cartoonist after World War II. He was only 20 years old when his first significant work, the novel length, Shintakarajima or â€Å"New Treasure Island†, appered in 1947. In just a few years, he became Japan’s most popular manga artist, eventually earning the tittle â€Å"God of Manga† (). Anime Influencing America Many integrations goes through the process, having to work its way from the ground up and then become a phenomenon in pop culture and anime is one of the best example of this integration. Anime becoming a cultural boom in 1990’s didn’t just happen overnight. At first recognized by the most avid and ravenous of fans -those that had the proper resources- things like anime, Japanese pop and samurai culture were definite underground sensations (). Producing Anime Video game consoles picked up steam and began to infiltrate millions of American households. These consoles, all Japanese made until Microsoft entered the fray in 2001, carried numerous Japanese franchises and storytelling methods that would enthrall children and teenagers across America (). When cable television began airing anime in small chunks here and there, vast amounts of those children who had grown up on Japanese video games immediately attached themselves. By the end of the 1990s, anime was a fringe pop culture niche. Thanks in part to the growth of DVD formatting and internet downloads, it was a full-blown mega-industry only 3 or 4 years later. Today, major anime releases find their way into the American marketplace on one of a dozen different television channels, hundreds of weekly DVD releases and major theatrical releases. Miyazaki won an Oscar in 2002 and Jon Lasseter the head of Pixar and Americas current iteration of Walt Disney has cited the Japanese master as a major influence on Pixars work and named him one of the greatest animators in the world ().
